In 1984 a gifted sixteen year old African American boy, had the world at his feet.
Brilliant in accademics and outstanding sports, he was chosen for a prestigious student exchange program in Nairobi, Kenya. For Donny’s parents this was an opportunity of a lifetime – a chance for their son to broaden his horizons and see the world beyond America’s borders.
But a school trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, changed everything.Against his farther’s warnings about the brutal Apartheid regime, Donny joined the tour – only to be seperated from his group and mistakenly declared dead. Alone in a country that treated his skin color as a crime, Donny fell into the hands of the police who stripped him of his identity and freedom.
Forced to answer to name that wasn’t his, and fearing discovery at every turn, Donny had to summon all his wits to survive in a land where being Black meant living in constant danger.
